Discussion:
Another serious problem with KMail

Hello list,

I've just discovered that KMail has changed its behaviour. I use the R key to
reply to a message, and in the case of a mailing list the reply was addressed
to the list; the associated identity was also picked up.

Now I see that the R key causes a reply to the writer of the message I'm
replying to, and the dialogue doesn't allow me to choose my identity. The L
key does reply to the list, but I still don't see an identity selection box.

Clearing the akonadi cache of the current folder doesn't help, nor does
rebooting.

This appears to have caused several of my messages to the list not to have
been sent to it. I'll resend the ones I can identify - apologies for any
duplicates.

Hi Peter,

I do not have those problems, this mail was initiated pressing "R", and the
mail-list address and correct identity is used.

Mail-lists are filtered into individual folders here, and I use the mailling
list handling in those folders, the list address can be autodetected. So I do
make an effort to make things work :)

Kindly,
Anders

Oops! Mea culpa. I've recreated my KMail setup so many times that, this time,
I forgot to tell it which folders have mailing lists in them.

Sorry about the noise.

You may need to enable the identity selection box via View->Identity. It's
hidden by default because showing it doesn't make much sense for people with a
single mail account (and thus a single identity).

That field is new to me - thanks.

But your use of Identity differs from mine. I use identities to represent
myself differently in different groups; the signature is tailored to the
audience. This sig is only used in the two KDE mailing lists I subscribe to,
for instance. I thought that was the reason for allocating an identity to a
folder, no?

not for me. my identities are family, work, security officer at work,
gmail, yandex, live.com (microsoft), and board member of a nonprofit.

it may be possible to use identities for the sole purpose of having a
different "signature" for some folders. but, that's now how i use them.

They were sent, but on this end, Kmail did not filter them to the correct
folder, I think because the list was CC: rather than To:

Cheers, Ian
