akregator crashes about 50% of the time, when i middle-click on a link

kontact 5.7.3 on kubuntu 18.04.

akregator randomly crashes when i try to open a link with the middle mouse
button (which is normally set to “open in external browser”).

it works okay if i right-click and choose “open in external browser” from the
context menu, but if i middle-click, sometimes nothing happens, and sometimes
akregator crashes.

also, it doesn’t give me enough information in the backtrace to make the bug
reports any good.

is there something to be done about this?

Did you try installing the debug packages? What are your system's specs? See

One of my big problems right now is that too many people believe they have
a direct line to the divine, and they never want to change their mind about
anything, they're never open to new information and they like to operate in
an evidence-free zone. And I think it's good if people continue to change.

okay, i installed the debugging packages, and the first thing i noticed is
that, instead of crashing about half the time, it doesn't crash at all... but
still, when i middle-click on a link, nothing happens.

it still works as advertised when i right-click and select "Open link in
external browser".

i guess it's sort of a step in the right direction... 8/

it's back to crashing about half the time, again. i guess it just needed to
let things settle.

i reported it. the bug is actually in Qt, #382575 -- https://bugs.kde.org/
show_bug.cgi?id=382575 -- it will be fixed, eventually. it was originally
reported in july of 2017.
