Hi, people! I've been using TB for 2 years. So I have lots of mail. I want
to migrate all that mail to KMail. How can I do that?

P.S.: I don't care about migrating all configurations. Just want the mail
tree imported into Kmail. I hope you can help me, because I already searched
in the kdepim-users mail archive and in google and nothing.

Cheers,

yes, it was moved out of Tools after a usability review, due to "Import" being
a "File" menu action, even though technically from a coding perspective it's
an external Tool. =)

1.9.1 seems to have it in both. I first met it in Tools, a long time ago, so
I never looked anywhere else

OK, yes, I _do_ have it in both. And it's greyed out in both. Under what
conditions can you actually use it?

Never met that problem. Could it be some missing kde packages?

I have kmail 1.9.1/kde 3.5.2/kubuntu 5.10 (breezy). Only in file menu; not
greyed out.

Given Júlio's response, I assume it must be, but there's no way I'm going to
install the kde metapackage to get it - I don't have any mail I need to
import (and when I do, I just do it via my local IMAP server).

Importing mail is handled by an application called kmailcvt. It's quite
possible that some distributions have a separate package for kmailcvt.

Thanks, Ingo. It's Ubuntu, and it does indeed have kmailcvt as a separate
package (and I haven't got kmailcvt installed).

Your help has been invaluable. Actually I haven't neither options in my
KMail because I am using KUbuntu, which doesn't install every KDE app
component. So I "aptitude install kde" and there is it in File menu. :-)

Unfortunatelly, the migration from Thunderbird was not successful. The
wizard freezed somewhere along the task. Ok... I can live with old mail in
TB.

Cheers and thank you helping me.

Júlio Maranhão

P.S.: I'm using KDE 3.5.2 and corresponding Kontact bundle.

I remember I had to use a script to move my thunderbird mail to kontact. Seach
a little bit more and I hope you'll solve your problem!!

Sorry for writing twice :(

Have you tried to import your mails as mbox files? Thunderbird should use that
format, and Kmail will be able to import the mails. It is a bit more dificult
and needs more work, but probably will work!!!

I think so. The wizard is straight for the TB case: just selected the folder
"~/.mozilla-thunderbird/2lsjbvji.default/Mail/Local Folders" and it started
the convertion. Next Monday I'll go back to work and I'll try another
method.

Anyway I have about 5k messages in about 10 folders. That is not an easy
task for a conversion tool. And there is a plus: the folders are original
from Windows TB version. I just copied it to the Linux one with a little
"hack": renamed registry.dat to appreg and the conversion from Win to Lin
was (pehaps)perfect. :-)

Cheers.
